Introduction

The Department of Nephrology at Ali Fatima Hospital is a recognized center of excellence dedicated to the comprehensive management of acute and chronic kidney diseases. Under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Riaz, an ISN Fellow in Interventional Nephrology, our department combines clinical expertise with state-of-the-art technology. 

We are among the few specialized centers in the region offering advanced, minimally invasive solutions for dialysis access and kidney failure, ensuring that patients receive world-class renal care in a compassionate environment.

Our department is led by highly trained specialists with international fellowships and extensive clinical experience:

• Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Riaz – Associate Professor & Head of Department (MBBS, FCPS Nephrology, CHPE, ISN Fellow in Interventional Nephrology & PD).
• Dr. H. Faisal Munir – Senior Registrar (MBBS, MD Nephrology).

Outpatient Services (OPD)

We provide expert consultations and specialized clinics for:

• Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Management of Diabetic Nephropathy and Hypertensive Kidney Disease.
• Glomerular Diseases: Treatment for Glomerulonephritis and Nephrotic Syndrome.
• Kidney Stones: A specialized Metabolic Stone Clinic focused on the medical prevention of recurrent stones.
• Transplant Care: Comprehensive workup and follow-up for kidney transplantation patients.
• Acute Care: Evaluation of Electrolyte and Acid-Base disorders.

Dialysis & Inpatient Facilities

Our facility offers 24/7 coverage for renal emergencies and maintenance therapy:

• State-of-the-art Dialysis Unit: Separate machines for Hepatitis B, C, and Negative patients to ensure maximum safety.
• Advanced Dialysis Modalities: Including Standard Maintenance Hemodialysis, SLED (for unstable patients), and Emergency Hemodialysis.
• Peritoneal Dialysis: Specialized center for Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD).
• ICU Support: Bedside dialysis facilities available in both Medical and Surgical ICUs for critically ill patients.

Interventional Nephrology & Procedures

We specialize in ultrasound-guided, minimally invasive procedures for dialysis access:

• Hemodialysis Access: Insertion of temporary catheters (Internal Jugular/Femoral) and long-term Tunneled Cuffed Catheters (Permcath).
• Peritoneal Access: Acute and Surgical CAPD Catheter Insertion (Tenhoff Catheter).
• Diagnostics: Real-time ultrasound-guided Renal Biopsy for both native and transplant kidneys.
• Vascular Management: Arteriovenous Fistula (AVF) assessment and management.

Future Vision

Under the guidance of Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Riaz, our department is working toward:

• Expansion of Kidney Transplant Program: Launching a dedicated Live Related Transplant program.
• Advanced Technology: Introducing Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) and a dedicated Interventional Nephrology Suite.
