Department of Rheumatology – Ali Fatima Hospital (AFH)

Introduction

Rheumatology is a specialized field of medicine dedicated to the study and treatment of inflammatory diseases that primarily affect the musculoskeletal system, including joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These conditions, which include various autoimmune disorders, often affect internal organs, blood vessels, nerves, and skin.

Because rheumatic disorders require chronic care and can lead to permanent disability if not managed properly, expert intervention is vital.

Ali Fatima Hospital distinguishes itself as one of the premier centers in Lahore with a devoted Rheumatology Clinic. Established in November 2023, our department is led by Assistant Professor Dr. Asif Islam, an internationally certified specialist (FCPS, SCE UK, EULAR Germany). We offer comprehensive outpatient services, thorough diagnostic evaluations, and advanced interventional procedures for complex autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions.

FAQs

Common symptoms include symmetrical joint pain, prolonged morning stiffness, unexplained fatigue, skin rashes (like a butterfly rash), and muscle weakness.

Every Tuesday is our dedicated procedure day, where patients can receive specialized joint and soft tissue injections for rapid pain relief.

Not necessarily. And I tell patients this all the time. Some conditions need long‑term control, yes — but doses change, medicines change, and sometimes we even stop them. The goal is control, not dependency.

I get that fear. Totally normal. But honestly? For the right patient, joint injections can be a game‑changer. Quick procedure. Minimal discomfort. And many patients walk out with less pain the same day. We only suggest it when it truly makes sense.

Not panic‑level worry — but don’t ignore them either. Lab tests guide us, they don’t define you. We treat the patient, not just numbers on paper. That’s why follow‑ups matter so much.
