Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. These include various maladaptation related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Initial psychiatric assessment of a person typically begins with a case history and mental status examination. Physical examinations and psychological tests may be conducted. On occasion, neuroimaging or other neurophysiological techniques are used.

Psychiatry Department in Madinah Teaching Hospital (MTH) was started in 2009. Services rendered by psychiatry department are as under: Both male & female out & indoor services for psychiatric patients. Services for patients suffering from drug dependence.

Department of Psychiatry in Madinah Teaching Hospital is providing so many important services.

1. Psychological tests are performed for children and adults to screen various mental disabilities and disturbances.
2. For self-awareness and to get rid of emotional demolishment, we provide better counseling and psychotherapy.
3. Psychiatry department at Madinah Teaching Hospital   continuously making efforts to give awareness about mental disorders to society of Faisalabad especially peripheral areas around Hospital and students. We arrange workshops, public speaking sessions for this respect.
4. Prescribe, direct or administer psychotherapeutic treatment or medication to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
5.  Analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental disorders.
6. Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
7. Counsel outpatients or other patients during office visits.
8. Examine or conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patients to provide information on general physical condition or mental disorders.

This department provides expert consultations not only to outpatient clients but also collaborates daily with other specialties. It specializes in the management of conditions such as depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, adjustment disorder, conversion disorder, drug dependence, and other psychiatric conditions using internationally recommended, research-based approaches.
