Otorhinolaryngology, commonly referred to as ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat), is a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the ears, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. Also known as otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, this field encompasses both medical and surgical interventions.
Otolaryngologists possess expertise in performing a broad spectrum of procedures, ranging from minor operations to complex reconstructive surgeries. Their scope includes management of disorders impacting functions such as hearing, swallowing, breathing, speaking, eating, and drinking. The specialty further covers the surgical treatment of cancers and benign tumors, along with plastic surgery of the face, scalp, and neck.
Department of ENT at ALI Fatima Hospital offers a wide range of academic programs and clinical services. The academic programs cater to undergraduate medical students, FCPS, and MCPS residents. In addition to training medical students, the department is dedicated to imparting quality teaching/training to paramedical & nursing students. The dept. has gained accreditation by various health care authorities, including the Pakistan Medical Commission, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Department of ENT is part of Abu Umara Medical & Dental College, Lahore, and Green International University.
The curriculum is designed to meet the challenges of modern ENT care. The students are taught modern concepts of medical education using live demonstrations in clinical practice and skill labs.
The department is primarily divided into outpatient clinics, indoor ENT wards, the emergency department, and Operating Theatres. There is a huge diversity of patients in the unit as we are a teaching hospital in the city offering state of the art evidence based services in the locality. The department offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. With the provision of endoscopic surgery and advanced audiological and radiological facilities, the department has emerged as one of the leading tertiary care centers in the city.

The department of ENT started working with the opening of the tertiary care hospital and is extending high-quality services to the patients. It has established its fame as one of the best centers in the vicinity, serving all kinds of patients. We have faculty as per the PMDC requirement. Postgraduate trainees feel proud to come to our department with a high success rate, comprehensive indoor patient care, and a state-of-the-art operation theatre, where they learn to rise and shine.
Audiology Section
We have a state-of-the-art Audiological Section with the facilities of Pure Tone audiometry, Tympanometry, and ABR.
Procedures
The department is fully equipped to perform all kinds of surgeries, ranging from minimally invasive surgeries to complex procedures. Facilities of Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Microscopic Ear Surgery, and Bronchoscopy and Esophagoscopy are available. Our theatres are also supported by specialized recovery units for post op care.
Outpatient Facility
These clinics are based on the idea of a multidisciplinary approach, working in close collaboration with all other departments.
Education and training
Post-graduate residents are provided with hands-on training. Both undergraduates and postgraduate students are trained by highly skilled professionals in the department.
Research and Development
We have an active Research Unit, conducting different research studies with our main focus on improving health in Pakistan and globally. Our department, led by Professor Najam ul Hasnain Khan, MBBS, FCPS (ENT), is a dynamic unit with specialized services available for the management of ENT patients.
The faculty members have been assigned administrative jobs in a scheduled manner. We have regular teaching sessions and rounds in which detailed reports about patients and administrative problems are presented by on-call doctors in the presence of all the residents and the consultant staff.
